Eleanor Medcalf will entertain us with beautiful works for concert harp including Hindemith Sonata for harp, Grandjany Rhapsodie, Matthias Improvisations for Harp and works by J.S. Bach.

Performer

Eleanor graduated from her BA in Classics at Queens’ College, Cambridge in 2022 where she was a Choral Scholar and Foundation Scholar and served as the Vice-President of Cambridge University Musical Society. Since then, she has worked as the events officer in the Queens’ College Alumni Office and is now preparing to commence her postgraduate studies in the harp at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in September.

Prior to Cambridge, she attended the Junior Department of the  and was a member of the  for two years, most notably as Principal Harpist under Marin Alsop in Bernstein’s Mass at the . Since then she has performed in many major venues throughout the UK including the , Snape Maltings,  and the  Manchester under conductors such as Sir Mark Elder, John Wilson and Sian Edwards. As a soloist, Eleanor has performed Debussy Danse Sacrée et Danse Profane and Ravel Introduction and Allegro and was a prize-winner in the Cambridge University Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition in 2019. Eleanor has accompanied choirs in and beyond Cambridge, including the Rodolfus ChoirCambridge University Chamber ChoirSt John’s Voices and the chapel choirs of King’s College and Clare College. Her conducting experience ranges from leading vocal ensembles from the harp to conducting Gilbert and Sullivan at the Minack Theatre in Cornwall! When not playing the harp, Eleanor enjoys accompanying singers on the piano and is a soprano in St John’s Voices.

This concert is free to attend, open to the public and there is no need to book.
